Magic's touch

In this remarkable autobiography, Earvin "Magic" Johnson writes of his life - of his family and friends, his astonishing basketball career, and his brave fight against the virus that causes AIDS - with the candor, charm, and spirit that have made him one of the most beloved sports figures of our time. Magic Johnson has always been more than just another basketball star. Since 1979 he has been the game's premier point guard, leading the Los Angeles Lakers to five NBA titles - a player who made everyone around him look as dazzling as he did. Off the court, his exuberant smile and lack of pretension made him a favorite of fans all over the world. My Life gives fresh and revealing insights about Magic Johnson's legendary basketball career. He takes us inside his championship season at Michigan State, the "Showtime" years with the Lakers, and his most recent triumphs in the 1992 All-Star Game and with the "Dream Team" at the Summer Olympics in Barcelona. Magic writes candidly of his teammates, coaches, friends, and rivals, including Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Pat Riley, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, and Isiah Thomas. My Life is also a deeply personal book. With his inimitable frankness, Magic reflects on his boyhood in East Lansing, Michigan, the loneliness of his early years in Los Angeles, his relationships with women, his life on the road - and his fight against HIV and for AIDS awareness. And he writes movingly of his wife, Cookie, whom he has known since his college days. A powerful and inspirational story, My Life is the most intimate autobiography in years - a book that captures the strength of Magic Johnson's character and the luster of his smile.
