Privacy
Last updated October 5, 2026. This is a draft and should be reviewed by a lawyer before launch.
Bookplated is a place to keep track of what you read. This page explains what we store, why, and how to take it with you or delete it.
What we collect
- Your account: username, display name, bio, and a password hash. If you sign in with Google, we also store your email address and Google account ID.
- What you put in: shelves, ratings, read dates, reviews, lists, friendships, highlights, notes and saved vocabulary.
- Cookies: one to keep you signed in, one to remember your appearance setting, and a short-lived one during Google sign-in. We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies.
What’s public
Your profile, shelves, public reviews and public lists can be seen by anyone. Reviews and lists you mark private, and your highlights and notes, are visible only to you unless you choose to share them.
Services we rely on
- Open Library provides book information and covers. Your browser loads covers directly from Open Library.
- Project Gutenberg provides the public-domain texts you can read in Bookplated.
- Wiktionary provides definitions when you look up a word.
- Google, if you choose to sign in with Google.
We don’t sell your data, and we don’t share it with advertisers.
Your choices
You can download everything you’ve added, or delete your account and all of it, from Settings. Deletion is immediate and permanent.
