This Is Fine: Absurdism for the Age of Forty Tragedies Before Breakfast

Forty tragedies before breakfast, and your village-sized brain was never built to hold a single one of them. Your nervous system was designed for a hundred and fifty people and a walk across a valley. Today, before you’ve even found your shoes, your phone hands you the raw grief of an entire planet, a war you can’t stop, a wildfire three time zones away, and an advertisement for a mattress. So you do the only thing a defenseless mind can do: you build a suit. You reach for the joke, the meme, the ironic detachment, and the reflexive line about ending it all over a jammed office printer. You sit in the burning room, drink your coffee, and whisper the three words that have become the defining liturgy of our age: This is fine. In This Is Fine: Absurdism for the Age of Forty Tragedies Before Breakfast, debut author Colin Klich dives straight into the orange light of modern existence. This is not a self-help book with a 30-day digital detox plan or empty toxic positivity. It is a candid, darkly funny, and deeply compassionate audit of the small insanities we’ve all agreed to call normal. Inside this 11-chapter survival guide, you will explore: - The Village Brain vs. The Planetary Hose: Why your Stone-Age hardware crashes under 24/7 global catastrophe—and why that isn't a character flaw. - The Radiation Suit: How we use irony and dark humor as protective gear, and what happens when the gear fuses to our skin. - Therapy Speak & "Main Character" Energy: Why we borrowed the clinic's vocabulary and film scripts just to feel seen in an overwhelming crowd. - The Re-Read of the Dog: How Albert Camus’s philosophy of absurd revolt transforms the famous meme from a picture of passive denial into an act of radical, eyes-open defiance. You are not broken; the room just got too big. If you’ve ever looked at the world, blinked, and quietly tried to make sense of the noise, pull up a chair. The coffee’s still warm.
