"The Open Door provides us with an engrossing glimpse of Brook at work: how he selects the plays he directs, how he draws extraordinary performances from his actors, and what he seeks to achieve through the medium he believes offers the most vivid metaphor for life itself." "A sparkling, provocative look at what transpires both behind the scenes and in front of the footlights, The Open Door is an essential work for anyone interested in the theatre, and an eloquent statement on the changing place of theatre in today's world." "Everything Peter Brook writes is brilliantly lively and deeply connected with our intimate thoughts. A worthy successor to The Empty Space and The Shifting Point, this is a book for all who have ever been dazzled and awakened by what happens on a stage."--BOOK JACKET.
