The Subtenant describes Krall's childhood experience as a Polish Jew disguised as a member of a Polish Catholic family that helped her survive the German occupation. To Outwit God is a reprint of Shielding the Flame, a treatment of Dr. Marek Edelman's experiences as a leader of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, and subsequently as a cardiologist.
